The Quay Hotel is the FCC group's swish, new 16-room riverside hotel in Phnom Penh. On top of the stylish interiors and great dining you'd expect from FCC (think ultra-modern design swathed in Khmer silk), there is also a conscience-clearing edge to the group's third property.
The hotel will offset its carbon emissions through a programme that gives cooking stoves to Cambodian families. These simple stoves use 22% less wood and charcoal, and give out lower amounts of carbon dioxide than traditional cooking methods.
One of the other goals of the project is to generate employment and self-sufficiency, as it establishes training centres where locals learn to make the stoves, and sell them for their own profit. Look out for the hotel's opening, scheduled for November.
